The rarest bird in the world is the Spix's Macaw (Cyanopsitta spixii), also known as the Little Blue Macaw. It is now considered possibly extinct in the wild, with the last known wild individual disappearing in 2000. The Spix's Macaw is native to Brazil and was primarily found in the state of Bahia.
Habitat destruction, illegal trapping for the pet trade, and disease are some of the main reasons for the decline of the Spix's Macaw population. Conservation efforts have been made to breed the remaining captive individuals in an attempt to reintroduce them into their native habitat, but the success of these efforts remains uncertain.
Due to its critically endangered status, the Spix's Macaw is considered the rarest bird in the world, with only about 60 individuals left in captivity. Efforts are ongoing to try and save this species from extinction.
